I don’t much like turkey burgers, I prefer a nice beefy bloody burger topped with a sharp cheddar cheese and a whiskey BBQ sauce.
But in an effort to serve more healthy meals I started incorporating leaner meats our menus.
Beef unlike poultry, has so much of it’s own flavor, so when cooking the more bland meat you have to cook it a little different while adding more flavors.
One important component is the addition of fat. Because turkey is no lean it can get pretty dry. Adding some fat will reduce some of that dryness.
When I first made it my husband ( who knows nothing at all about food, cooking, and hasn’t cooked anything since I was pregnant over a year ago) asked why is the meat so light!
Of course I told him to shut it, his mouth that is, but when he tasted the burger he was surprisingly pleased.
- 1 LB Ground Turkey
- ¾ cup plain bread crumbs
- 2 teaspoons of sea salt
- 3 minced fresh garlic cloves
- Handful of dried parsley
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- Sliced onion
- Olive oil
- Mix all ingredients up well and form patties.
- Wipe skillet down with some oil so the burger won't stick.
- Cook on both sides for about 8-10 minutes.
- For caramelized onions
- Pour a bit oil olive oil in hot pan add onions and let cook while tossing for about 3 minutes.
- Add to the top of burger with some cooked bacon and tomato and you have a lean flavor packing burger.

I don’t prefer turkey burgers either, but I would definitely give these a try.
You better! They are good!
