This post is about all the times I have an amazing recipe but no matter how many times I prepare it, or the amount of pictures I take it just looks nasty on camera?!
Well it seems I’m having a lot of that lately, I feel like I need to brush up on my camera knowledge or maybe read a few photography books, because these pictures lately have been looking less than appetizing.
Now don’t get me wrong the food tastes awesome, and the recipes have been Flawless, it’s the pictures that don’t come out so flawless.
My creativity for backgrounds, props, and lighting are just way down.
My camera came with a bunch of videos and manuals, and when I first got it I went through and watched most of the videos, I learned a lot….but now it seems I’ve forgotten a lot.
Now let’s talk about these pics of my (not so tasty looking)tasty dishes.
Let’s start with this classic Steak and Cheese on a Hoagie, I mean this is one of my husbands favorite meals…but who would believe me after looking at this shot…
No Bueno
The color is wrong the plate is wrong, the meat looks dry and where’s the cheese?
Let’s just move on…
This plate of Lo-Mein Noodles was delicious and topped with sweet honey glazed marinated flank steak strips…
sounds better than it looks…
I tried to dress it up and combat some of the ugliness with some sesame seeds, but what a waste.
Yep here it is again folks…that sorry looking steak and cheese,
I thought “maybe a close up would capture the deliciousness that is this sandwich”
Thought wrong…
Should of just kept it moving.
Now check out these pork tacos, with spinach, tomatoes, and cumin beans.
It was delicious but capturing all that flavor was a task to big for an amateur food photographer such as me.
It sort of reminds me of…trash… just trash
Look at this oldie but goody with a cheesy twist, I made a delicious cheddar country gravy, over the classic chicken fried steak.
It’s a shame such a delicious dish ends up looking like a deformed chicken nugget covered in DNA, then topped with a tree branch!
…and because I’m no quitter I tried to do that text over picture thing, to cover up the unsavory sight.
look I put the whole dang recipe on the Picture!
FAIL
…you can just smell the DESPERATION.
And last but not least this lovely plate-bowl, or whatever it is…
filled with classic fried green tomatoes, topped with a honey Dijon sauce served next to some
wilted parsley…
and they just fall apart! :/ What a sad sight.
Yeah so this has been a tough couple of weeks I’ve been trying to keep up with my fitness regimen while preparing meals for my family and for this blog, but as I write this out at 11:45 pm, and all the kids are asleep hubby in bed, and me here typing in my zone it is all worth it!
Blogging has brought me tons of joy, and has been an excellent outlet for me to express myself without needing any approval, I can really do whatever I want on here.
Thank you for reading and commenting and sharing this experience with me.
Please let me know of any good books, website, and other photography resources that may be helpful.
What do you do when you get in a rut, or start feeling less than inspired.
Well I see what you’re saying but that steak on the roll is still making me drool.
I, too, have lighting & camera issues on most days. It’s like rocket science to figure out sometimes. Dang it!

Thank you, I guess sometimes I am over critical of myself but, it’s a slow learning process with camera and lightening, most days I just give up and start eating
I cracked up at putting the text over the picture! LOL When I get in a rut, I try not to force it. I give myself the break that is needed…do something fun- find inspiration and try again.
I’ve been trying to step back from it, reading other blogs and being more social helps these less inspired times! Thank you, and I thoroughly enjoyed your “Blogger Cliques” post!!!
I can relate with camera issues. I wish I had more to share to help you out! I never read my manuel…and I only shoot on automatic. lol. I have been pinning articles on better photography. I heard the secret is all in the lighting…
Oh, and I’m with Josie… not all of those pictures are that bad! I liked the lo mein one!

Thanks!!I guess I can be over critical of myself!
Maybe, a change in lighting would help. Also, you can edit the brightness and add different effects using PicMonkey. But if you’re getting burnt out, just take a little break. Look into getting some guest posters if you still want regular content up until you’re feeling inspired again.

This website was… how do you say it? Relevant!! Finally I have found something which helped me. Cheers!
Thanks, enjoy your site too…being that I have major allergies, I can use all the tips and help I can get!
Yes! I can so relate to this. I definitely need a few photography books/courses. lol Soups and sandwiches are the worst to take pics of for me.
Yes the sandwiches end up falling flat and the soup can look gross with the wrong lighting, I’m just a mess right about now, but I’ve been brushing up on basic skills and techniques, it’s a working progress! I can’t wait to see what you have coming up!! Thanks Monique
Heya just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you know a few of the
images aren’t loading correctly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue.
I’ve tried it in two different internet browsers and both show the same results.

Thank you. I’m used to using one internet browser so I forget to check the others. I’m trying to remedy the situation now.
